If anyone is having hosting problems please go "Here".
Download the Port Checker for MGO ,"PortChkMGO_103" Install it on a computer that is connected to the same router as your PS3, and follow the directions.

The default port is 5730, and you can change it in MGO to any port you want. I had mine set to 3970...and it wouldn't work so 5730 "has" to be the open port to "host games" even though you can change the port inside the MGO settings to what ever port you want. :x

Also here is a good start, and upload download test. Click Me
If it doesn't work go here while in the PS3 browser. http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/sd/support/tool2.html

Testing your Network setup
**********************************************************************

1. Preparation(1)

First, please check that you can go online and browse websites using
your PLAYSTATION(R)3. If you are unable to this, check the settings
on your router or whether the connection has been correctly set up.

2. Preparation(2)

If possible, try to fix the IP address of your PC to that of your
PLAYSTATION(3) for greater accuracy. It will also be recommendable
to use the same type of connection, so if you are making use of the
PLAYSTATION(R)3's wireless connection, please set one up for your PC
for the purpose of this test.
In addition to this, router settings may need adjusting.

3. Testing

Now, run the Connection Checker. If you are going to use different
port settings to default, please enter the relevant port numbers then
click on "Check".
If a warning message is displayed by your firewall, we recommend
that you disable it before re-starting the connection checker.

4. Test Results

The results of your test will be displayed in approximately 2 minutes
and you will be asked to submit them to us for the purpose of
research. If you consent to providing us the relevant data, please
select "Yes". We will be extremely grateful for your cooperation.
Please note that this program will not extract any data that can be
used to identify you in person.

**********************************************************************
Interpreting the results
**********************************************************************

If the result is shown as a circle "O", then it is likely that your
Home Network is suitable for playing "METAL GEAR ONLINE".
However, please note that the results may not be entirely accurate
as the network setup of a PC may differ to that of a PLAYSTATION(R)3.
If you have altered the settings of your router for the purposes of
this test, make sure to change them back to the settings you would
require in order to go online with your PLAYSTATION(R)3.

* [O] Playable. You will also be able to host games.

You should be able to play "METAL GEAR ONLINE" without any
restrictions.

* [O] While some game functions may be restricted, you can play the
game.

While you will be able to play, you may be unable to make use of some
of the functions in the game such as hosting games.
The likely causes are the settings of your firewall program or router
and by adjusting them you should be able to solve such problems.
Please refer below for what to do if your tests come back negative
"X".

* [X] TCP connection blocked.
* [X] UDP connection blocked.

If either of these results are shown, then it means that you will be
unable to play "METAL GEAR ONLINE" under the current settings.
However, it is possible that:

1) The cheker server was down at the time.
2) The networking tools haven't been set up correctly.

We would recommend that you run the test again after adjusting your
router settings or at a later time.

**********************************************************************
When your results come back negative
**********************************************************************

If your results state that you will be unable to play "METAL GEAR
ONLINE", please see the possible solutions as listed below.

(1) PC settings

First, try the methods shown below should this apply. You may get
improved results.

* Disable your firewall temporarily when running the test.
* You may have multiple network settings. We would recommend you
disable all network settings apart from the one you are likely to use
in order to play the game.

(2) Router settings

Try the below router settings:

* If your router is UPnP compatible, please enable it. You may be
able to play this way.
* Disable UPnP and then manually open UDP port no. 5730. (You could do
this by using the port forward function on your router or assigning a
DMZ to the IP address you are using for this test by virtual hosting.)
* Or, you can open the ports listed below by using the same method as
above.

Ports used for online play:

Any one from a sequence of 10 UDP ports starting at no.5730 when
automatic setup is enabled. (Initially set to start at no.5730)
A fixed UDP port between no. 1024 and 65535 when automatic setup is
disabled. (Default 5730)

For details on how to set up your router, please refer to its manual
or consult the manufacturer.

(3) Internet Service Provider (referred to as "provider") settings

Please try the below methods:

* If you are using a firewall program provided by your ISP,
you will need to alter the settings to allow communications through
the ports shown above in (2).
* If your provider has assigned you a Private IP address, see if they
can give you a global IP address instead.

(4) Other Causes

Other possible causes that could block your connection may include:

* Your firewall software.
* Communication may be blocked between networking tools in your set
up.
* Maintenance on the Connection Checker server or ISP networks.
* High traffic on the Connection Checker server or ISP networks.
* The Connection Checker server may be temporarily down or no longer
running.

5730-5739 UDP needs to be open...even in manual mode. No idea why.
